We transcribe the conference given by Dr. José Carlos Prates at SILAT III in 2010. This text summarizes the history of anatomical terminology from 400 BC to 1998. It offers an important list of anatomists involved in the study of nomenclature, as well as the scientific societies that participated. It also indicates the succession of languages that led the terminology throughout its history.
