Summary

In 2021, the Standards of the Teaching Profession will be updated; however, the documentary review shows that there is little information on the adoption of these guidelines by universities. In this context, an instrument was designed and validated to measure the conceptual and procedural knowledge of future Biology teachers about the Standards of the Teaching Profession. Content validation was carried out by a panel of 5 expert judges, who evaluated each test item in terms of relevance, clarity and relevance. With this, Aiken's V was applied to determine content validity, calculating confidence intervals for each item and accepting those with a V equal to or greater than 0.70. Subsequently, a pilot study was carried out, in which 54 fourth- and fifth-year biology future teachers from seven universities in Chile participated, ensuring that the participants adequately represented the desired attributes of the target population. The results obtained allowed us to calculate the reliability of the instrument, through Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, which reached a value of 0.815. The process allowed us to refine the instrument and ensure that the selected items were appropriate to measure knowledge of teaching standards in the context of Biology teacher training. It should be noted that the specialized literature lacks a validated and reliable instrument for this purpose in Pedagogy in Biology, which underlines the novelty and importance of this study.

KEY WORDS: Initial Teacher Training; Standards of the Teaching Profession; Pedagogy in Biology; Content Validity; Instrument Reliability.
